Training

I started training in December 2010. As I hadnt given myself much time to prepare, I had to jump in at the deep end. I started off doing 3-4 eight mile runs a week and a couple of lunch time 5 milers around Arthurs Seat. Within a couple of weeks the 8 milers were replaced by 11 mile routes. In February I aimed to run between 60-80 miles a week. I would run 7 miles before work and 11-13 miles after work. I would also try and fit in a 20 mile run on the weekend. By March, my mid week running distance was 15-18. I do this 2-3 times mid week followed by a 20 mile run on the weekend. My final training run is on Wednesday 30 March. I’m having a few days off to relax the body ahead of the first marathon in Amsterdam on 6 April.

I would like to have done more training but I am absolutely confident that I’m ready. After all Eddie Izzard only had 6 weeks training ahead of his marathon challenge. I just need to be disciplined and keep the pace slow.
